This will check all the major tour operators and holiday companies. San Pedro de Alcantara is great place to spend your holidays. Firstly it is located within easy driving distance of Malaga Airport. Malaga Airport is of course well served by many leading airlines and boasts connections with most major European cities; see Malaga Flights for more information/to search for flights. Those intending on visiting other parts of the coastline will find San Pedro an ideal base to do this from, both from an accessibility point of view, and because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Opportunities for car hire are also good; see the San Pedro Car Hire document for more information San Pedro has been around since the 1860's, though then an agricultural community growing various produce, including sugar cane. Though agriculture is still important, since the 1970's the town has thrived increasingly on tourism. Tourists require entertainment, and many of the Costa's golf courses, amusement parks and other attractions are based within short driving distance; Tivoli World, the Selwo Marine Park, and the Benalmadena Sea Life Centre to name but a few. There are also plenty of local sights to take in; the Roman baths (Las Bovedas), the Paleochristian Basilica Church and Necropolis, many shops, cafes and dining options, and of course its old town. As mentioned earlier one of the main attractions here is the diversity and availability of accommodation. There are many hotels to choose from; lower cost options through to high end offerings. To search for hotels see San Pedro Hotels; to search for rental accommodation in San Pedro see San Pedro Rentals. San Pedro also caters form those looking for some retail therapy. The old town is the best place to head for shops, and there are a range of craft and fashion shops on offer. You are also likely to find that some goods are slightly cheaper here than in some of the more expensive neighbouring towns. The town does offer 5 kilometres of San Pedro Beaches to choose from. Visitors should find them clean and well serviced, mainly sandy and flanked by good quality restaurants and Chiringuitos (beach front cafes). There is ample evening entertainment for all but the most energetic of San Pedro's residents. This takes the form of (mainly) restaurants and bars, though Puerto Banus is just a taxi ride away for those who wish to stay up until daybreak. Traditional fiestas (festivals) are still prevalent, and there are a number to choose from, see San Pedro Fiestas for more information. San Pedro Weather is well known for being mild, making it an ideal destination in both summer and winter months. The coastline is sheltered by hills and high mountains, allowing for a micro climate. This limits rainfall, and as a result the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 300 days per year. San Pedro is at its hottest during the summer months, with average temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Mild winters average at around 18°C (64°F). A bi-product of the mild weather is that it makes for an ideal golfing climate. As a result many visiting golfers (including well known professionals) use the Costa del Sol as their winter training ground. There are a multitude of golf courses within reach of San Pedro, see San Pedro Golf for details.
