Nerja Holidays Nerja is great place to spend your holidays. Firstly it is located within easy driving distance of Malaga Airport. Malaga Airport is of course well served by many leading airlines and boasts connections with most major European cities; see Malaga Flights for more information/to search for flights. Opportunities for car hire are also good; see Nerja Car Hire on the left hand side of this page. Nerja has a population of just over 12,000 and is becoming ever more popular with tourists, though it still remains one the most unspoilt coastal towns on the Costa del Sol. Its location ultimately saved the town from the early tourism and high rise development experienced by western towns like Torremolinos. The result is a smaller mainly low rise community with much of its character preserved. However tourists require entertainment, and many of the Costa's golf courses, amusement parks and other attractions are based within driving distance; Tivoli World, the Selwo Marine Park, and the Benalmadena Sea Life Centre to name but a few. There are also plenty of more local delights and the old town centre is a good place to start. Here visitors will find many criss crossed narrow streets, and whitewashed houses with wrought iron balconies and old fashioned doors/grilles. Town monuments include the 17th century Church of El Salvador, and the Gardens of Capistrano; a beautiful area descending to Burriana beach. Alternatively the Balcon de Europa (Balcony of Europe) promenade is worth a look; perched atop a cliff looking out to sea. Well serviced by cafes and bars, this vantage point is an excellent place to come to admire the views of the outlaying land and the Mediterranean. One of the main attractions here is the diversity and availability of accommodation. There are many hotels to choose from; lower cost options through to high end offerings. To search for hotels see Nerja Hotels; to search for rental accommodation in Nerja see Nerja Rentals (left hand side of this page). Between the rocky outcrops that form much of Nerja's coastline there are many sandy Nerja Beaches to choose from. Visitors should find them clean and served by good quality Chiringuitos (beach front cafes). Those in search of evening entertainment will find an ample selection of restaurants and bars in Nerja, though the town is much quieter in this respect than those found west of Malaga. Traditional fiestas (festivals) are still prevalent, and there are a number to choose from, see Nerja Fiestas on the left hand side of this page for more information. Nerja Weather is well known for being mild, making it an ideal destination in both summer and winter months. This is mainly due to the fact that Nerja is sheltered on its northern side by the Sierra Almijara mountains, which limits rainfall. The result is that Nerja enjoys sunshine for in excess of 300 days per year.
