The definition of a "Villa" is that of a luxury detached or semi detached property. Since Roman times the Villa has been a symbol of success which many aspire to. Most properties in Murcia however tend to be apartments in medium rise blocks. There is a distinct lack of low rise property available around the larger towns themselves, especially detached property. Finca style alternatives can be found in outlaying suburbs of Murcia, although the vast majority of options on villas exist closer to the coast. What is available in the province of Murcia ranges from 2 bedroom properties with no private land (but with access to communal facilities), to huge sprawling properties with swimming pools, tennis courts etc. For those wishing to purchase a villa with room for a swimming pool, the minimum plot usually necessary is 300m2. Obviously if the villa is itself larger than most, then a larger plot may have to be allowed for. Should buyers wish to purchase a villa off-plan; most constructors will have an extensive portfolio of villas from which to choose. Some will be built in their standard range and typically are ready for completion at around the 12 month mark. Others will be built upon demand and take more like 18 months to complete. For the client who wishes to plan a villa from scratch, architects can be made available. Almost all constructors are happy to undertake such a project.
