Mijas Tourist / Tourism Mijas' council has been shrewd in exploiting the town as a tourist attraction without altering/extending it too much. As a result it has retained much of its old world charm, and become a favourite day trip for those staying/living in the coastal resorts. Great effort has been made to preserve not only the town's main attractions but also the residential buildings; in the older parts of Mijas it is law that residents white wash the front of their houses and carry out general repairs before the summer season begins. Mijas is made up of narrow winding streets and white washed houses arranged in tiers. All over the town there are view points and resting places; such as the beautiful Muralla gardens. Mijas dates back to ancient times and there is much evidence here to prove it. There are plenty of Mudejar and Christian churches together with other religious buildings/monuments, a bullring, museums, squares, and much more. Aside from this it is an excellent place to come if you want to relax and soak up the atmosphere. Contrastingly Mijas Costa has seen considerable growth in recent times. It has swallowed neighbouring districts and towns such as La Cala and Las Lagunas. The vast majority of property options exist in this part of the Mijas municipality. However those looking to stay for a shorter period will find a plentiful supply of hotels, alongside rental apartments and villas.
