Both the village of Mijas and Mijas Costa are great places to spend your holidays. Firstly they are located within easy driving distance of Malaga Airport. Those intending on visiting other parts of the coastline will find Mijas/Mijas Costa an ideal base to do this from, both from an accessibility point of view, and because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Many of the Costa's amusement parks and other attractions are based in/near its municipality, the Parque Acuatico Mijas (water park), and the Hipodromo Costa de Sol (horse racing track) to name but a few. There are also plenty of sights to take in; from the narrow winding streets of Mijas Pueblo with its many old churches and historic sights, the beaches and promenades of Mijas Costa, or even a trip to Mijas Zoo. As mentioned earlier one of the main attractions here is the diversity to be found in a relatively small area. The same can be said for places to stay. Shopping is great here; with an excellent selection of supermarkets and competitively priced shops on offer. As a rule Mijas Costa tends to host more of the upmarket shopping centres and boutiques, whereas Mijas village offers visitors local goods and handicrafts. Mijas Costa does boast a great sea front and there are miles of Mijas Beaches to choose from. Visitors should find them spotlessly clean (some awarded the European blue flag award), with fine sand and flanked by a good collection of Chiringuitos (beach front cafes). Nightlife in Mijas varies greatly between the coastal developments and the village; the vast majority of bars and other entertainment options are found either in/on the outskirts of the Mijas Costa residential zones. Mijas Weather is well known for being mild, making it an ideal destination in both the summer and winter months. The coastline is sheltered by hills and high mountains, allowing for a micro climate. This limits rainfall, and as a result the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. The municipality of Mijas is at its hottest during the summer months, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Mild winters average at around 18°C (64°F). A bi-product of the mild weather is that it is an ideal golfing climate. As a result many visiting golfers (including well known professionals) use the Costa del Sol as their winter training ground.
