Mazarron Tourist / Tourism Puerto Mazarron has now achieved its own identity as a popular holiday destination. It is an attractive location visited by many holiday makers, and ex-pats Europe wide. Fishing and agriculture still dominate the local economy, but most of the expansion and modernisation of this portside town comes as a result of residential tourism. Though now a cosmopolitan community both Mazarron and Puerto Mazarron have held onto much of their culture and associated tradition. This is a place where people work and live, and a popular destination during the summer months amongst many Spaniards as well as other Europeans. Positively affected by the rise in visitors is the commercial sector; and as a result a wide array of sporting pursuits are now on offer (especially for golfers). The beaches of Puerto de Mazarron are one of the areas best selling points. Overall they are sandy and of a very high quality; having been awarded the blue flag rating for safety and cleanliness. Though busy in central parts during the summer months overcrowding here is not generally an issue. There are many fiestas (festivals) throughout Mazarron's calendar, some of which are a real spectacle and well worth a look. The cuisine is another major bonus, with (affordable) good food available everywhere, alongside the middle to high end restaurants. Mazarron is also well known for its mild climate and enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. The sun is at its hottest during the summer months, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F).
