Marbella Golf

Golf in Marbella and throughout the Costa del Sol is a major industry. This part of Spain boasts the highest concentration of high quality golf courses in Europe. Mild weather and warm winters are the main reason why the sport took off here; and with increased popularity in the game many visiting golfers (including well known professionals) use the Costa del Sol as their winter training ground.

There are a multitude of golf courses within reach of Marbella, in this section we link to some of the closer options.

 

Aloha Golf Club

The internationally acclaimed Aloha Golf first opened in October 1975; forming part of the initial boom of golf course construction that transformed the area into what is now Europe's premier golfing destination.

Cabopino Golf Club

Cabopino Golf Club first opened in April of 2001. Since then it has enjoyed continuing popularity (over 80,000 rounds played in its first two years). Its location is enviable, with the Mediterranean Sea and Cabopino harbour nearby.

Real Club de Golf Las Brisas

Las Brisas Golf Club (officially known as the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas) was founded in 1968 and is amongst the best on the Costa del Sol. It is located in Nueva Andalucia, near to the prestigious town of Marbella.

Club de Golf Guadalmina

Guadalmina Golf Club is the 2nd oldest on the Costa del Sol (opening in 1959) and comprises a total of 45 holes; two 18 hole courses and a 9 hole "short play" course. It is located just outside Guadalmina, though easily commutable from Marbella. 

Club de Golf La Dama de Noche

The La Dama de Noche (meaning to Lady of the night) was the first European golf course to remain open 24 hours per day (opening in 1991). A 9 hole offering, it is located near Puerto Banus, at the gateway to Marbella's famous golf valley.

Flamingos Golf Resort

The Flamingos Golf Resort was inaugurated in July 2001 and is widely recognised as one of the best golf courses on the Costa. Located in the hills between the towns of Marbella and San Pedro the scenery and views are truly remarkable.

Los Naranjos Golf Club

Los Naranjos Golf Club first opened in the 70's, although its clubhouse was not inaugurated until the end of 1991. Soon after opening it enjoyed immense popularity, and today remains one of the "must play" courses on the Costa del Sol.

La Quinta Golf and Country Club

The La Quinta Golf and Country Club boasts a total of 27 holes. The idea being it allows different combinations when playing 18 holes. Located near prestigious Marbella in the heart of the Costa del Sol; Europe's premier golfing destination.

Marbella Club Golf Resort

The Marbella Club golf course is for the exclusive use of guests staying at the Marbella Club Hotel, the Puente Romano Hotel, and property owners on the resort. Nestled in the hills near Benahavis the course is easily reached from Marbella.

Monte Mayor Golf Club

Monte Mayor first opened in 1989, and has enjoyed continuing popularity ever since. The course location is enviable, as it is wrapped around rocky outcrops in a mountainous region near Benahavis (easily commutable from Marbella).

Rio Real Golf Club

The magnificent Rio Real Golf Club was founded in 1965. Taking its name from the river that crosses it, Rio Real is located near the town of Marbella in the heart of Europe's premier golfing destination; the Costa del Sol.

Santa Clara Golf Club

Santa Clara Golf is new to the Costa, opening in July of 2001. A relatively new concept in this part of Spain, Santa Clara Golf is a pay and play course with no membership policy. Located just a couple of kilometres east of Marbella's centre.

Santa Maria Golf and Country Club

The Santa Maria Golf and Country Club first opened for business in 1991. Then boasting just 9 holes (designed by Antonio Garrido); the back nine were added by the club's technical team in 1996. Located to the east of Marbella, near Elviria.

 

The vast majority of courses do not allow booking more than 7 days in advance (unless booking in large groups), preferring to capitalise on the income created by short term visitors. However due to demand, short term booking is almost always necessary and those turning up on the day expecting to play may find themselves disappointed. Do contact the corresponding clubhouse in advance to be certain before turning up.
