Mar Menor Weather Weather along the shores of the Mar Menor is very mild (and well known for it), making it an ideal destination for holiday makers in both the summer and winter months. The Mar Menor and its surrounding areas are sheltered by hills and high mountains allowing for a kind of micro climate. This limits rainfall, and as a result the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. The sun is at its hottest during the summer, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Whereas the typically very mild winters, boast averages of around 18°C (64°F). The province of Murcia, and therefore the Mar Menor, is famous for its salt lakes (salt is a major export).
