Fuengirola is great place to spend your holidays. Firstly it is located within easy driving distance of Malaga Airport. Those intending on visiting other parts of the coastline will find Fuengirola an ideal base to do this from, both from an accessibility point of view, and because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Opportunities for car hire are also good; see the Fuengirola Car Hire document for more information. Fuengirola has been popular since the 60's, amongst foreign nationals and Spaniards alike. Though places such as Torremolinos or Marbella may be more familiar to many people, Fuengirola is actually the more popular destination. Many of the Costa's amusement parks and other attractions are based in this area; Tivoli World, the Selwo Marine Park, and the Benalmadena Sea Life centre to name but a few. There are also plenty of sights to take in; from its quaint Los Boliches fishing quarter (complete with ruins of a Roman Villa), to Fuengirola Zoo, or even the infamous Hippodrome Costa del Sol (the Costa del Sol's horse racing track). As mentioned earlier one of the main attractions here is the diversity and availability of accommodation. There are numerous hotels which are in the main of good quality, and affordable. Shopping is great here; with an excellent selection of supermarkets and competitively priced shops on offer. In addition Tuesdays host one of the Costa's largest street markets at the Recinto Ferial (public fairground) area. You can even take a horse and carriage ride at the entrance. Fuengirola does offer a great sea front and there are over 5 miles of Fuengirola Beaches to choose from. Visitors should find them spotlessly clean, with (in the main) fine sand and flanked by a good collection of Chiringuitos (beach front cafes). The town's nightlife is pretty lively in places, though the majority of nightclubs are found around the outskirts of town. Fuengirola Weather is well known for being mild, making it an ideal destination in both the summer and winter months. The coastline is sheltered by hills and high mountains, allowing for a micro climate. This limits rainfall, and as a result the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. Fuengirola is at its hottest during the summer months, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Mild winters average at around 18°C (64°F). A bi-product of the mild weather is that it is an ideal golfing climate. As a result many visiting golfers (including well known professionals) use the Costa del Sol as their winter training ground.
