The province of Alicante has its own airport, El Altet, or Alicante airport (ALC) as it is more commonly known. El Altet airport is one of Spains best served destinations with most major airlines flying there from different parts of the UK and Europe, often several times per day. Another option is the province of Murcias International airport at San Javier (MJV). Often neglected by travellers Murcia San Javier airport is just 1 hours drive from Alicante, so anybody travelling to the Southern Costa Blanca/Northern Costa Calida should consider it. Although air traffic is far less than with El Altet, it can still be a very useful destination if flying from certain parts of the UK (Manchester for example). The major boom in air traffic in recent years has enabled residents of other European countries (such as the UK) to benefit from the purchase of holiday homes (due to the relative ease of finding flights for affordable week/weekend breaks), and those buying properties for rental/investment purposes (as increased air traffic means more visitors, and therefore more security when renting an overseas property). The other winners in this scenario are the ex-pats, or indeed those looking to emigrate, as (many people have already found) it can be quicker and cheaper to fly to Spain these days than to drive long distance within the UK. In short as the world really is becoming a smaller place.
