Estepona is great place to spend your holidays. Firstly it is located within easy driving distance of Malaga Airport. Malaga Airport is of course well served by many leading airlines and boasts connections with most major European cities; see Malaga Flights for more information/to search for flights. Those intending on visiting other parts of the coastline will find Estepona an ideal base to do this from, both from an accessibility point of view, and because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Opportunities for car hire are also good; see Estepona Car Hire on the left hand side of this page. Estepona has a population of around 40,000 and is becoming ever more popular with tourists, though it remains one the most unspoilt coastal towns on the Costa del Sol. This is mainly due to local goverment initiatives; such as the compulsory whitewashing and reparation of all residences in the town centre/areas of antiquity. However tourists require entertainment, and many of the Costa's golf courses, amusement parks and other attractions are based within driving distance; Tivoli World, the Selwo Marine Park, and the Benalmadena Sea Life Centre to name but a few. There are also plenty of local sights to take in, and the old town centre is a good place to start. There are several delightful squares, such as the Plaza de las Flores (the main square), the Plaza del Reloj (complete with clocktower built by Henry V), and the Plaza San Francisco; each flanked by ancient buildings and fed by narrow cobbled streets. Alternatively the pedetrianised Calle Real is a good place to visit some of the more traditional coffee shops and eateries. One of the main attractions here is the diversity and availability of accommodation. There are many hotels to choose from; lower cost options through to high end offerings. To search for hotels see Estepona Hotels; to search for rental accommodation in Estepona see Estepona Rentals. Estepona also caters for those looking for some retail therapy, and there are a range of craft and fashion shops on offer. You are also likely to find that some goods are slightly cheaper here than in some of the more expensive neighbouring towns. The town also offers many kilometres of Estepona Beaches to choose from. Visitors should find them clean and well serviced, mainly sandy and flanked by good quality restaurants and Chiringuitos (beach front cafes). Those in search of evening entertainment will find a good collection of restaurants and late night bars in the marina area. Traditional fiestas (festivals) are still prevalent, and there are a number to choose from, see Estepona Fiestas on the left hand side of this page for more information. Estepona Weather is well known for being mild, making it an ideal destination in both summer and winter months. This is mainly due to the fact that Estepona is sheltered on its northern side by the Sierra Bermeja mountains, which limits rainfall. The result is that Estepona and surrounding areas enjoy sunshine for in excess of 300 days per year. A bi-product of the mild weather is that it makes for an ideal golfing climate. Aside from its own local courses Estepona is within easy driving distance of both Marbella (with its infamous golf valley) and Sotogrande (home to Valderrama Golf, Sotogrande Golf and more). See Estepona Golf on the left hand side of this page for details.
