Estepona Golf Golf in Estepona is a major industry. Aside from its own local courses it is after all within easy driving distance of both Marbella (with its infamous golf valley) and Sotogrande (home to Valderrama Golf, Sotogrande Golf and more). This Costa del Sol boasts the highest concentration of quality golf courses in Europe. Mild weather and warm winters are the main reason why the sport took off here; and with increased popularity in the game many visiting golfers (including well known professionals) use the Costa del Sol as their winter training ground. Estepona Golf first opened in 1989, and is located on the inland side of the main coastal road just one mile from Estepona's town centre. Estepona Golf is a "pay and play course", concentrating on visiting golfers rather than club membership... The Atalaya Golf and Country Club first opened its doors in 1968 and is located between Marbella and Estepona, in the direction of Benahavis and Guadalmina. It consists of two courses spread across 36 holes; appropriately named the old course, and the new course.... The La Dama de Noche (meaning to Lady of the night) was the first European golf course to remain open 24 hours per day (opening in 1991). A 9 hole offering, it is located near Puerto Banus, at the gateway to Marbella's famous golf valley... The Flamingos Golf Resort was inaugurated in July 2001 and is widely recognised as one of the best golf courses on the Costa. Located in the hills between the towns of Marbella and San Pedro the scenery and views are truly remarkable... Los Arqueros Golf Club first opened in 1991; enjoying privileged views from its perch 5 kilometres north of San Pedro towards Ronda. The owners Taylor Woodrow have made Los Arqueros popular with players of varying standards&ldots; The Marbella Club golf course is for the exclusive use of guests staying at the Marbella Club Hotel, the Puente Romano Hotel, and property owners on the resort. Nestled in the hills near Benahavis the course is easily reached from Marbella... Monte Mayor first opened in 1989, and has enjoyed continuing popularity ever since. The course location is enviable, as it is wrapped around rocky outcrops in a mountainous region near Benahavis (easily commutable from Marbella)... Guadalmina Golf Club is the 2nd oldest on the Costa del Sol (opening in 1959) and comprises a total of 45 holes; two 18 hole courses and a 9 hole "short play" course. It is located just outside Guadalmina, though easily commutable from Marbella. El Paraiso Golf is located between San Pedro de Alcantara and Estepona; the course lies one kilometre from the El Paraiso hotel. With mountains as its backdrop the course is set in a valley offering magnificent views out across the Mediterranean Sea&ldots; The La Duquesa Golf Club first opened its doors in 1986 and is located in the La Duquesa residential area on the western side of Estepona; near the town of Manilva... Some courses do not allow booking more than 7 days in advance (unless booking in large groups), instead preferring to capitalise on the income created by short term visitors. However due to demand, short term booking is almost always necessary and those turning up on the day expecting to play may find themselves disappointed.
