Estepona Fiestas Spanish towns and cities are famous for their festivals (fiestas), and Estepona is no exception. There are plenty of fiestas throughout the town calendar, some larger than others. Here we list some of the more popular fiestas:-   One of the most popular celebrations in Estepona takes place during Easter week. Easter is celebrated in a bigger way in Andalucia than in the rest of the country. Neighbouring towns compete with one another in terms of the size and grandeur of events. Festivities in Estepona take the form of various religious processions through the streets of the old town.  Another popular fiesta is the Fiesta de San Juan (feast of St. John) on the 23rd of June. The fiesta originates from pagan tradition, though given Christian sanction, and is essentially a celebration of the midsummer solstice. Bonfires are lit on the beachfront and large effigies (made by the locals) are burnt upon them accompanied by fireworks. The tradition is to wash your face in the sea at midnight; this is said to bring eternal beauty. This is a fun festival with lots of eating, drinking and dancing. Games and events are  organised for children both in the daytime and evening. Every town/village in Andalucia province has its own summer feria/fair; Estepona's summer fair is held on the 1st week of July. Daytime events take the form of parades. Much tapas is enjoyed, as well as much drinking, singing and dancing. The evenings move towards the Recinto Ferial (public fairground) area on the outskirts of the town, which is bathed in light and colour. As always, events culminate with a grandeus firework display.   Precise dates cannot be given for many of the above festivities due to dates changing on an annual basis.
