The Costa del Sol is great place to spend your holidays. Firstly it is very easily reached via Malaga Airport, which is of course well served by many leading airlines and boasts connections with most major European cities; see Malaga Flights for more information/to search for flights. Those intending on visiting other parts of the country will find the Costa del Sol an ideal base to do this from, both from an accessibility point of view, and because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Opportunities for car hire are also good; see the Costa del Sol Car Hire document for more information. The Costa del Sol has been popular since the 60's, amongst foreign nationals and Spaniards alike. Places such as Torremolinos and Marbella formed the initial tourist boom, but today the entire Costa is a draw for many Europeans. This has caused a relative boom in amusement parks and other attractions; Tivoli World, the Selwo Marine Park, and the Benalmadena Sea Life Centre to name but a few. There are also plenty of sights to take in; from the traditional white washed villages that are to be found on the mountainsides, to Fuengirola Zoo, or even the infamous Costa del Sol Hippodromo (the Costa's horse racing track). As mentioned earlier one of the main attractions here is the diversity and availability of accommodation. There are a multitude of hotels which are of good quality, and are affordable. To search for hotels see Costa del Sol Hotels; to search for rental accommodation in Costa del Sol see Costa del Sol Rentals. Shopping is great in most towns along the Costa del Sol, though probably best in Malaga in terms of variety, and Marbella and Puerto Banus for the high end designer boutiques. Many of the white washed inland towns promote locally made handicrafts, textiles, and foodstuffs. The Costa del Sol does offer a great seafront and there are miles upon miles of Costa del Sol Beaches to choose from. Visitors should find them spotlessly clean, with (in the main) fine sand, and flanked by a good collection of Chiringuitos (beach front cafes). The Costa's nightlife ranges from lively, to peaceful and serene. Most town centres play host to ample evening entertainment, though the trendiest options are to be found around Marbella and Puerto Banus. Fiestas (festivals) are still prevalent, and there are a wide number to choose from, see Costa del Sol Fiestas for more information. Costa del Sol Weather is well known for being mild, making it an ideal destination in both the summer and winter months. The coastline is sheltered by hills and high mountains, allowing for a micro climate. This limits rainfall, and as a result the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. The Costa is at its hottest during the summer months, with average temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Mild winters average at around 18°C (64°F). A bi-product of the mild weather is that it is an ideal golfing climate. As a result many visiting golfers (including well known professionals) use the Costa del Sol as their winter training ground. There are a multitude of golf courses to choose from, see the Costa del Sol Golf document for details.
