Costa Almeria

The Costa Almeria coastline is a varied as any of the other regions in mainland Spain.  It is completely unspoilt, with a low population, and particularly popular with nature lovers, and back packers.  The coastline takes its name from the capital city Almeria which lays on the South of the province.

Although on first look the Costa Almeria is a baron desert, because of its good irrigation system, it is an significant expansion area, and renowned for its high quality oranges and grapes which is it main exportation.  The sandy beaches stretch far and wide, with quiet coves, and clear waters.  There are many activities available in this province from water sports, to golfing, gliding, horse riding, and hiking.

Almeria city itself has an abundance of history with many places to visit.  The Cathedral is a must see built in 995, so is the Alcazaba, a stroll through the park, and the local market (in the Plaza Vieja) to soak up the Spanish atmosphere.  The locals are very welcoming, and approximately half are of African origin.  Because of this there is a ferry service to Africa from the main port of Almeria City.  There is also a fishing port and a sports marina which is hosting the Mediterranean games in 2005.  Through the center of the city is La Rambla a long avenue with many childrens playgrounds, and alcoves to sit and rest.

Outside of Almeria City there are many good days out; Cabo del Gato-Nijar natural park, Mini Texas Hollywood, Roquetas de Mar this is a typical Spanish fishing village, and castles ruins of Santa Ana and Los Bajos. Almerimar a tourist area with miles of beach, beautifully clear sea, and a huge marina.  Adra used to be Roman Colony and is a good day out, there is a fortress, 18th century church, harbor, beaches lagoons and many species of birds.  Mojacar is another good day out.  Not forgetting one of the two water parks is a must on any hot holiday.

Almeria has the largest number of cloudless days, sometimes beyond 3000hrs of sunshine every year. The average temperature is in the summer is 18ºC and and in the winter is 24ºC. The sea is crystal clear and most of time time warmer than the air.

All in all I would highly recommend this coastline for your annual holiday or investment in property.
