Benalmadena is great place to spend your holidays. Firstly it is convenient, at just 19 kilometres from Malaga Airport. Those intending on taking in other parts of the coastline will find Benalmadena an ideal base to do this from, both from an accessibility point of view, and because of the wide choice of accommodation. The town has a resident population of around 30,000 inhabitants, which swells to 100,000 during the peak summer months. Many of the Costa's amusement parks and other attractions are based in this area; Tivoli World, the Selwo Marine Park, and the Benalmadena Sea Life Centre to name but a few. There are also plenty of sights to take in; from the Castillo de Colomares built in honour of Columbus, to the world famous Puerto Marina sporting harbor. As mentioned earlier one of the main attractions here is the diversity and availability of accommodation. There are numerous hotels which are in the main of good quality, and affordable. Shopping opportunities are centred on the Arroyo de la Miel commercial and residential district. A wide range of options can be found here from high end fashion boutiques, to smaller local shops. Benalmadena Pueblo (old town) also offers a collection of small souvenir/arts and crafts shops. Benalmadena does offer a great sea front and there are many Benalmadena Beaches to choose form. Visitors should find them spotlessly clean, with (in the main) fine sand and flanked by a good collection of Chiringuitos (beach front cafes). The town's nightlife is still pretty lively in places, though the majority of nightclubs can be found in and around neighbouring Fuengirola. Benalmadena Weather is well known for being mild, making it an ideal destination in both the summer and winter months. The coastline is sheltered by hills and high mountains, allowing for a kind of micro climate. This limits rainfall, and as a result the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year. Benalmadena is at its hottest during the summer months, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F). Mild winters average at around 18°C (64°F). A bi-product of the mild weather is that is makes for an ideal climate for golf. As a result many visiting golfers (including well known professionals) use the Costa del Sol as their winter training ground.
