Almeria City

Almeria city has an abundance of history with many places to visit. The Cathedral is a must see built in 995, so is the Alcazaba.  Two ways to soak up the Spanish atmosphere and get to know the city is to stroll through the park, and a visit to the local market which is on from 9-2pm every Tuesday in the Plaza Vieja.  The locals are very welcoming, and approximately half are of African origin.  Because of this there is a ferry service to Africa from the main port of Almeria City.  Through the center of the city is La Rambla a long avenue with many childrens playgrounds, and alcoves to sit and rest.

There are three golf courses very close to the city and seven in total along the coastline.  Golf Almerimar, Playa Serena, and La Envia are the closest three courses, for more information please see our Almeria Golf page.

There are two main fiestas annually in Almeria City, one towards the end of August celebrating the Virgen del Carmen, and one on 26th December (Boxing day) called the Fiesta Del Pendon; this is celebrating when the Catholic Kings took Almeria back from the Moors.  Please see Almeria Fiestas page for more information.

The beach in Almeria is okay for a city beach, it has golden sand, and the sea is warmer than the air most of the time.  There is also lifeguards on duty and certain standards kept to as it is a Blue Flag beach.  Please see Almeria Beaches page for more information.

The weather is fabulous in the Costa Almeria all year round.  The average temperature in the summer months is 25ºC and in the winter months is 12ºC.

There are three marinas in Almeria City; a fishing port, ferry marina, and a sports marina which is hosting the Mediterranean games in 2005.  For more information please see our Almeria Marinas page.
