Almeria Fiestas Annually towards the end of August there is a fiesta in Almeria City celebrating the Virgen del Carmen. The Virgin Carmen was the protector of the fisherman which is why they celebrate it in the traditional Spanish fishing towns. Almeria City also has a major fiesta on 26th December, Boxing day each year. This fiesta is called the Fiesta Del Pendon, and it celebrates when the Catholic Kings took Almeria back from the Moors. They hold a banner with three army standards up high and walk through the street passed the Assembly Hall, and City Council. Spanish Fiestas The local people are very welcoming for tourists that want to join in with any fiesta. I would very much recommend going to a Spanish Fiesta as they really know how to party. A typical fiesta is celebrated annually and usually local businesses close, the roads are blocked off, and a street party is set up with food, drink and music in abundance. People of all ages join the party in singing and dancing. Then in the evening the there is usually a fairground, and often on the last night there will be a fireworks display. Sometimes there is even a bank holiday the day after the fiesta for the town to recover! National Spanish Fiestas:
