The province of Alicante is proving an ever popular choice for holiday makers and ex-pats all over Europe. Having an agreeable climate throughout the year and a diverse range of sights and leisure pursuits (see "Alicante tourism") certainly has its benefits, but what can Alicante really offer the would be property buyer?

Situated in the middle of the Costa Blanca the city of Alicante is well placed for travel throughout Spain. It is connected to the A-7 motorway that will take you to the French border, and the N-340 runs as far along the coast in either direction as any are likely to want to travel (Murcia - Barcelona and beyond). It also features excellent bus, train and flight connections via Alicante's International Airport "El-Altet" (further information can be found in the "Alicante Airport").

A reasonably large working city for this part of Spain Alicante has a population of in excess of 280,000. For most people looking to get away from it all (in many cases large cities in their home nations) Alicante proves a little much, preferring to make their property purchase either North or more frequently South of the city. Close enough to benefit from what the city has to offer, and yet far enough away for peace, tranquillity and relaxation.

The majority of Alicante property available to the North (Northern Costa Blanca) is between 30 and 90 minutes drive away from Alicante. At 30 minutes lays Benidorm, an ever popular destination for the package tour holiday companies, and therefore a good spot for a rentals/investment purchase. During the summer months Benidorm is a loud and vibrant party town, and during the winter months host to a season of dance (modern, ballroom, line dancing etc). From 60-90 minutes drive you will find the Northern shoulder of the Costa which is home to the main coastal stretch of properties. In order of distance, towns to look out for are Altea, Calpe, Moraira, Javea and Denia. A variety of property options are available here, from apartments, townhouses, villas and rural residences. The gradient of land in many places allows for excellent sea views coming away some distance from the beach, although this can affect prices significantly.

The Southern Costa Blanca is often the most popular choice. This is largely due to the relatively low price of land and property compared to other parts of Southern Spain. This part of the Costa also offers the most choice in terms of property available and (in the hot spots) is home to a very successful private renters market. A wide selection of property is available 10 minutes drive from Alicante, and through to Cartagena without much interruption. Towns to look out for here are Santa Pola (the Gran Alacant residential area here is one of the closest to the airport), Guardamar, Torrevieja and San Pedro. Another advantage to buying in the South is a second international airport (Murcia - San Javier) situated on the Costa Calida, approximately 1 hour south of Alicante. Being sandwiched in between these airports makes the Southern Costa Blanca possibly the most accessible destination in Southern Spain.
