El Palmeral Another tourist attraction in Alicante province is El Palmeral, which is essentially made up of palm and date tree orchards. It is located very near the town of Orihuela, specifically in the North East quarter of Orihuela, near San Anton. It should take no more than 45 minutes drive if travelling from Alicante, and 30 minutes from Torrevieja. El Palmeral is of Islamic origin. Date trees grow on the paths and sides of the canals. It is a good idea to walk through from El Collado del Oriolet, or alternatively cross country through the palm tree orchards. Orihuela is itself worthy of visiting. Mainly to soak up the atmosphere, to do a little shopping, or stop for a drink in one of its many bars and cafes.
